Beyond Austerity: Alternative Policies for Employment and Growth

On May 2nd and 3rd, IPD will partner with the the Foundation for European Progressive Studies and Fondazione Italianieuropei to host a conference with the Rome Chamber of Commerce in Italy to discuss the austerity measures that the EU has debated, negotiated, and implemented in order to stabilize Europe's economy. All sessions, apart from the public panel on May 2nd, are closed to the public and required an invitation to attend.

Press Coverage for Beyond Austerity Conference

The Rome conference earlier this May received wide coverage from several media outlets and news reporters. Three days before the second round of the presidential election in France, they called for going beyond austerity. The below link presents the press and third party coverage of the event.

IPD Launches Book on African Development at UN

IPD's latest publication entitled "Good Growth and Governance in Africa: Rethinking Development Strategies" was showcased at the UN in partnership with the JICA Research Institute. A panel discussion with several respected development and African experts discussed strategies for improving African growth.

Regulating Global Capital Flows for Development

Brookings Institute hosted a discussion on the new report from the Pardee Center Task Force at Boston University titled "Regulating Global Capital Flows for Long-Run Development." Kevin Gallagher from Boston University, and Columbia University’s Stephany Griffith-Jones and Jose Antonio Ocampo discussed scenarios when capital controls are helpful for emerging markets to prevent and mitigate financial crises.

Joseph Stiglitz Advises Myanmar Government on Economic Policy in February Seminar

On February 11th, Dr. Stiglitz participated as a key-note speaker at a seminar entitled, "An Agenda for Equitable and Sustainable Development for Myanmar," which was hosted at the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce. He proposed several strategies for the new Myanmar government to encourage growth in uncertain times.
