4 Reasons You Need Fruit in Your Diet

Kids are more likely to eat fruit than vegetables. It’s no wonder. They’re incredibly tasty. You can eat them as a dessert, as a snack, and they’re refreshing. Different fruits contain a high amount of water, which helps to stay hydrated. Apart from this, there is at least four other reasons you should eat more fruit. Let’s explore those reasons.

1. Vitamins

Fruit comes in all colors of the rainbow, which is a good way to determine whether you’re eating all the vitamins you should be having in a day. Vitamins are essential for your body to function properly. Aim at eating red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple fruit. Keep in mind that red, orange and yellow fruit tend to have a lot of the same vitamins. This also goes for fruit that is either blue or purple.

2. Fiber

You body needs fiber to eliminate waste properly. Food that sits in your bowels can cause problems in a variety of ways. Digested food that collects in your intestines can damage the lining of your intestines. You may become constipated from it, which can result in impacted fecal matter. Digested food that does not pass quickly from the body also increases the amount of toxins within the body and usually causes halitosis and skin issues.

3. Energy

Many people suggest eating bread, pasta and rice for energy, but you get a good source of energy from eating fruit too. Different kinds of fruit contain variable amounts of sugar, which can be used as energy for the body. Watermelon, papayas and grapefruit have a relatively low amount of sugar. Bananas and grapes are far more sugary. It’s important to note however that fruit contains vitamins and nutrients that enable the body to harness the energy it receives. For example, you need a good amount of vitamin C to have energy and keep your immune system healthy. Vitamin K is also important for regulating energy.

4. Reduce Risk of Disease

Berries, apples, plums and other types of fruit are known to have amazing antioxidants, which can help to ward off and fight different types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, macular degeneration and Alzheimer’s. Fruit is also helpful in fighting various forms of toxins that damage the body and alter DNA.

When you get down to all the benefits fruit has to offer and you’re staring down a bowl of ice cream for a sugar fix, it would be better to reach for fruit that can help to satisfy your craving. It’s a good idea to include a few servings in your diet every day. If you’re concerned about sugar intake, you can limit your fruit servings to two and eat more vegetables, which offer a plethora of benefits as well.
